Back to Homeschooling and in love with Workboxes

I have so missed this!!! Today was our first day back as homeschoolers.  The last four months I've been waking up early, dragging sleepy kids out of bed and praying that I got them to school on time all the while hating every minute of it.  Of course the early mornings put a hurting on this life long night owl but I was getting use to it.  What I hated the most was being without my silly little boy and energetic mini me.  I missed them so much.
I'm not really sure how the millions do it.  Maybe it's because they don't know the joy of teaching them at home but whatever it is I didn't like it.  Don't get me wrong. They went to a great school.  I loved their teachers and they like it too. They made lots of friends and were well liked by the teachers but they too knew what it was like to homeschool and asked me on a daily bases if I would 'Please' start homeschooling them again.
It's a long story why we put them in school at the beginning of this year so I'm not going into it but now that I've experienced both options for educating my children I will be a life long homeschooler.
Ok with that said let me tell you that today was the best day of homeschooling ever.  It's been over 6 months since I've had to formally 'teach' my children so I was a little nerves about this day.  That was until I found out about 'workboxes'.  Oh, my, I will sing the praises of 'workboxes' because, it works.  What is 'workboxes' you say??  Well let me tell ya.

The creator and master mind behind 'workboxes' is Sue Patrick, a homeschooling mom from North Carolina.  In her book, Sue Patrick's Workbox System A User's Guide, she talks about her need to help her autistic child met his highest educational potential.  But this system can help anyone because it's flexible and can help even the most unorganized person get it together.  Once you have made this idea into your own I'm sure you will love it just as much as I do.

We have taken a more traditional approach with bookshelves and shoe boxes but the possibilities are endless.  If you don't have room for a small bookcase for each child then it's just as easy to use file folders and milk crates.

Why do I love this so much.  Well, lets see.  I had no winers today, not a single 'I don't want to do this'.  My oldest daughter (K) was done by 11:45 and asking for more work. :-)  My son (2nd grade) took a little longer but I'm sure he broke a personal time record today.  It's not how fast they were doing it but the fact that they are doing it without me sitting there leading them from one thing to the other.  They were self motivated!!! Something I never thought would come about. :-P Not only that but I was able to get all my housework done, worked with my twin toddlers on numbers, and even had time to do a little writing.  My house today was peaceful and full of love and laugher.  It was just like the picture I've always had in my mind of what a homeschool day should look like but never been able to accomplished.  Well we accomplished it today.
Of course I know that we will have bad days but I'll be able to get through them because in the back of my mind I know that my dream is possible.
Come back soon to see pictures and hear more about how to use 'Workboxes' and make them work for use.  May you have a blessed day in everything you do.
